GAME 7
Mussina vs Gubicza
Royals 5, Yankees 1
Lets dispense with all
the cliché’s about Game 7’s and the finality of it all…yada, yada, yada and
lets focus on the fact that down 3 games to 1 the Bombers battled themselves
back to get to this point by facing 2 straight elimination games and shutting
out the Royals in both of them. Pressure
was squarely on the back of Mark Gubicza to help out his team’s faltering
offense. Fortunately for KC that
stagnant offense exploded for 3 big runs in the bottom of the first and 2 more
in the 5th. That resurgence coupled
with Gubicza’s 7 inning / 1 run performance were more than enough to clinch the
pennant for KC. George Brett was 3 for 4
with a run scored in this biggest of all big games. John Mayberry’s
2 run shot in the first set the tone for it all. The fleet footed Royals swiped 4 bags as
well, with Wilson (2) getting his 47th on the season.
Royals win series 4-3
