GAME 7
Knepper vs Jurrjens
Giants 4, Braves 2
9 out of 10 times game
7’s never live up to the hype. This one
provided all the drama that any hardball fan could imagine. Jim Ray Hart scored in the top of the first
on a Mays SF and Ed Bailey trotted home on a wild pitch in the bottom of the
second to make it 2-0 Jints. Brave fans
got awfully quiet awfully fast. RBI
singles by Escobar and Andrew Jones in the bottom of the 3rd
returned the game to chalk. By the end
of regulation neither team managed a run, so game 7 headed into extras where
the pressure really amped up. In the top
of the 10th, with Moylan on the mound Jose Pagan led off with a bunt
single. Garry Maddox struck out looking
on an 0-2 ball in the dirt. Bobby Bonds
hit a seeing eyed single just out of Giles reach at 2nd. Jim Ray Hart worked out a walk to load the
bases for Mays who hit a blast down the left field line that was deep enough to
tag Pagan up for the go ahead run. After
Stretch McCovey was hit by a pitch Gary Matthews walked to force in a run and
put San Fran up by 2. Frank Linzy jogged in from the pen to
get the final 3 outs and send the Jints to the World Series to face the KC Royals
Giants win series 4-3.
