GAME 6 – Royals Stadium
Sabathia vs Appier
Yankees 2, Royals 0
The series shifted
back to KC with the Royals needing one more win to close it out. Instead they got to face a vintage C.C. Sabathia, who
threw a tidy 6 hit complete game shutout.
KC’s Appier (6.1 IP / 0 R) was good, but when he tired his successor,
Larry Gura (2.2 IP / 2 R) wasn’t up to snuff.
With both teams sweating out a scoreless tie after 8 full innings of
play the Bombers finally broke the deadlock with 2 in the 9th. Tex lead off with a walk and was doubled in
by PH Alfonso Soriano, who snuck in and took 3B when McRae tried to gun Tex
down at the plate. That set the stage
for PH Shef to launch a sac fly to left to make it 2-0. With the Sandman fully warmed in the pen the
big man convinced his manager to let him close his own game out. C.C. said see you later to the Royals by
fanning Mayberry and Seitzer. Sandwiched
in between those k’s was a warning track fly my McRae.
Series tied 3-3
