In a repeat of game 1’s
matchup we again see Sabes and Perry both come up way short of their pedigree. Sabes was bombed for 9 runs (4 earned) in 4
innings). Perry, who was staked to a 7-0
lead began leaking oil in the 4th and was gone after 7 having given
up 7 runs (6 earned). The real story was
“Stretch” McCovey
who knocked in 7 runs, scored three.
McCovey had 2 homers and a triple in a Herculean effort that helped the
Jints stave off elimination. Backstop
Dick Dietz (2-4) was a nice co-star hitting a homer and knocking in 4 himself.
Royals lead series 3-2
